Hi my name is J... am 40 years of age n i had a heartburn problem since 18. I have been taking tums, ranitidine, zantac, omeperazole, hpiroli combination drugs etc... I have very frequent heartburn (everyday can get heart burn within seconds of taking coffee, omelette, tea, beer) n can also easily get away with after takin vanilla ice cream, non citric fruits... but am also having trouble with bad mouth and bad fart smells which I think is bc of this gastritis and sometimes blackstool. Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and since problem is off 20 long years thus sumptomwise approach is as follow:
1. Stool for amoebiasis, giardiasis, tapewrorm and if there is presence then take tablet secnidazole 1 gm (2 tabs) single dose.
2. Hb% for anemia 3. Ultrasonography of gall bladder 4. Sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy (if indicated) 5. black stool could be due to erosive gastritis because of use of pain killers. 6. Avoid chillies and sour food, stop smoking & alcohol. 7. stop taking irritant drugs. 8. Avoid oily foods, aerated drinks, onion, peas, beans, dals, chickpea flour.
