Suggest Treatment For Herniated Disc L4-5

My son age 42 has a herniated disc L4-5 observed on MRI. A month of PT and injections into back x2 as well as a course of oral cortisone has alleviate some pain but is still present. Orthopedic surgery is now scheduled. I have been reading about non invasive treatments for decompression of bulging disc. Is this an approved, tested, successful treatment? There is a Disc Institute here in Clinton Tshp, Michigan with patient interviews/u tube videos etc. I cannot find good information about the physician in charge, Dr Joseph Mannella. I this worth pursuing to avoid surgery??

Hello,

Herniated disc decompressed with physical therapy and medication or minimally invasive disc decompression or surgical decompression.

So depending upon the severity your surgeon may decide the type of surgery.

Avoid heavy weight lifting or sleeping with back support may useful. Please consult your surgeon he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
