In June I was diagnosed with hvs 1 and 2. I have been on Valtrex ever since..(one sex partner for the past 20 yrs.(ever) but 4 yrs ago he was not faithful) have had irritation and yeast infections off and on for 4 yrs. Symptoms of hvs have not gone away. They seen to get worse about every week and a half so I double up the meds for 3 days. this seems to bring them back down but never gone. Blood work also showed thyroid but went for more tests and thyroid was fine. A few years ago I had shingles and was given Valtrex. The shingles did not go away until I was given a different medicine (white pill). Should I see if I can be given a different herpes med? I was also referred to a nutritionist.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of herpes, my treatment advice is -
1. Drink plenty of water and avoid spicy foods.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine for itching and NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral acyclovir taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
