Suggest Treatment For Hiatal Hernia Causing Pain While Eating

hello I am going now for my 2nd EGD & I have this is issue to where I have acid reflux and I see a pulmonologist and I have a huge Hiatal hernia that is causing a knot underneath my left breastbone that is so painful after I eat and instead of my food going down the correct way. Because of the hiatal hernia it is causing my food to come back up and aspirate into my lungs causing severe chest pains. It literally feels like im having a heart attack and my CT Scan showed scar tissue on my lungs because of this. Do you thing surgery on my hiatal hernia will be needed? It is very difficult to eat plus I am a bit over weight with bad asthma?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. Living with a hiatal hernia is not easy and can be very frustrating. At this stage and with the symptoms you are experiencing, I'm afraid the only option is surgery, more precisely, laparoscopy. This is usually a minimally invasive procedure and you should be able to be up and running within a short time. So please talk to your doctor about the symptoms you are experiencing so he can devise an appropriate treatment plan to provide you with long term relief.

Wishing you good health and all the best.
