Hello,
A
high blood pressure reading is not by itself an urgent situation. Concerns may be raised when:
- You have an
aneurysm as aneurysms may rupture when the blood pressure is not under strict control
- You have serious
heart disease and the high blood pressure has led to symptoms like shortness of breath
The high blood pressure may sometimes be due to various correctable causes like the following:
- Drugs:
NSAID, for example, may cause an elevation in blood pressure
- Psychological stress
- Pain
- Increased salt consumption
I usually ask patients to check their blood pressures at least twice a day for a week or so. If the blood pressures are consistently high then arterial
hypertension is likely and treatment will have to be commenced. Adopting a healthy lifestyle will help with your blood pressure. Make sure your body weight stays close to normal. Watch what you eat. You should avoid
saturated fat and high salt consumption. Physical activity helps with the body weight and with hypertension. So in conclusion, you can wait for a couple days unless you have (or develop) either an aneurysm or serious symptoms. Since you seem to have none, waiting sounds safe.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
