Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 63 year old woman good health, do not eat sugar, however, love my wine. My ferritin level was 302. I do not have any symptoms. I feel great, but worried about my ferritin level. My LDL is high, as my HDL is also high. Not sure what do. Liver enzymes are normal. Sugar 5.7 for last 2 years.
Hello there, Thank you for your question. Your ferritin level of 302 ng/ml is quite high. You have not mentioned the units but is it is as much as you have mentioned then it is quite concerning. The first thing I would think of is alcohol damaging your liver, or iron deposition being excess in the body. But then your liver enzymes being normal its reassuring. It would be better if you could reduce the consumption of wine to 1 glass per day. HDL although very protective, LDL should be in control. SO my advise would be to reduce wine consumption which may reduce the ferritin levels. Also do discuss with a physician about starting Statins if your LDL cholesterol is high and based on your risk for heart diseases the decision can be made. Hope this helps. Take care.
