Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my high blood pressure medication was just switched to another medication with higher dosage. Specifically, I was switched from Lisinipril (20 mg) to Losartan potassium (50 mg) after checking into the E.R for a blood pressure reading of 177/111. its been two days and my blood pressure is still ant 150/100 with the new prescribed medicine. when I notified my doctor with this problem, he gave me a few options: give the new medication time to work, increase my dosage, or go back to the lisinpril taking it accordingly. How long will it take before the new medication kicks in?
Hi, I usually recommend a weekly follow up for my patients with hypertension. In the meantime, have regular blood measurements in he home. If you have any symptoms like headache, giddiness; then you need to consult your physician soon. As discussed by your doctor, the options are increasing the dose or switching back to older drug or another anti-hypertensive medication can be added. As your blood pressure is decreasing, I would suggest you to wait for a week keeping in mind the above points. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
