Suggest Treatment For High Blood Pressure

My husband has gout....he is taking medication....two in fact (colchicine and daily amlodipine) and it comes back in a few days after he finishes the colchicine....he is on high blood pressure meds but the doctor just told us for him to stop taking his water pill. Still the gout comes back....needless to say he isn t a happy camper. He s 78 ....(5 11 and about 238#) ....I have him taking cherry concentrate (mixed with water) daily...he was taking a vitamin C table as well but stopped insisting it was the cause of his gout! Ugg....Eating...I have made him stop drinking orange juice and soda - he is not a drinker (no beer or whiskey or even wine). I cook a lot and he loves to eat ....naturally I have made him stop certain foods but not all red meat....Help!

Hi,

Yes if he has gout, we need to stop the water pills as that may increase the uric acid. Amlodipine is ok to continue with.

If he gets pain, you need to continue colchicine for about 6 to 8 weeks, but colchicine itself does not lower down uric acid, it only heals pain.

To lower down the uric acid we need to give other drugs like Zyloric. There are other drugs available as well. So talk to your doctor in this regards.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
