Suggest Treatment For High Cholesterol

I am concerned about my total cholesterol

I am 44 years old, male

Total 248, HDL is 42, LDL 162, and Triglycerides 218.

I am about 30 lbs overweight for my height. I believe my last blood pressure check was good.

I am a vegetarian so not sure why figures so high but I believe partly related to coffee, weight and lack of exercise.

Id like to avoid using drugs.

I do not smoke, I do not drink.

Thoughts?

Hello and thank you for using HCM.I carefully read your question and I understand your concern. You shoud not worry . I'll try to explain you something and give you my opinion.

You should know that cholesterol target levels depends on some factors like your age, other associated rics factors like hypertension , diabetes and hereditary history of high cholesterol.

You are over 45 years old so you have entered in the risc factor age so we have to show careful whith all parameters.

If you dont have other risc factors that I mention before than your target levels should be for total cholesterol below 180 mg / dl and for ldl col below130 mg / dl.

You can try to controll your high values by dietary style but sometime this is not posible and medical treatment is mandatory.

So what you can do now is to strart to loose weight by regullar physical activity minimaly 40 minutes a day.
Avoid fast food and sweeties. You already use vegetables and this is a good thing.
You can try this for three months bht if your cholesterol doest fall down you should start medications.

Hope I was helpful.Wish you good health.
Best regards.
