Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Cramps In A Child
My 11 year old daughter has a high fever and her hands are closed and cramping. She said it hurts to open them. Doc this morning thinks she has strep even though the rapid test was negative. Is this normal? I m worried because her temp is high and Tylenol/ Advil not bringing it down.
High fever could be due to viral infection if rapid strep test is negative. However, blood sample culture and oral swab culture for strep is highly recommended for confirmation.
Next, if she is having hand cramping and cannot open, my thoughts go for possible Guillian Barre syndrome precipitated from high fever. I highly recommend to consult with a neurologist and to rule out Guilliam Barre. This is an autoimmune disorder where the body is attacking its healthy nerve cells. MRI of the spine will rule this out. If caught earlier, there are great chances for recovery.
Hope this helps.
