Suggest Treatment For High Fever, Diarrhea And Rectal Mucus

My 17 wk old granddaughter has diarrhea and is passing mucus rectally. Her temperature is 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit on average in the last 36 hours. I believe she has occasional cramping which causes her to arch her back and/or curl up with crying and fussing for a few minutes. Outside of an appointment, is there anything her mom can do, for my granddaughter, to ease her discomfort?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

She is too young to be treateted without physical examination. Take her to ER. They will take vitals and after examination will settle down the fever with tylenol or so.

She may need some time to stay there in hospital for observation and follow up properly.

This seems to be a viral infection and settles down usually in 7-10days and she is heading towards it. Give her little Pedialyte to replenish the fluids. Important is that she wets her diapers pretty well. If not, it means she has lost fluids and is dehydrated.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
