Suggest Treatment For High Heart Rate Despite Taking Coumadin
My 83 year old father is in ICU with A Fib and heart rate they cannot regulate. I recorded it today and within one hour, it went from 83 to 116 and in between. He is septic too. They are calling in a cardiologist. Is that an extremely high heart rate. He had been off of Coumadin for 2 weeks now.

Coumadin is blood thinner. It has nothing to do with heart rate control. Atrial fibrillation patients need to start anti-arrhythmia drug immediately because fibrillation can be life-threatening.
So better to take him to cardiologist immediately and start treatment for fibrillation. He will need diltiazem or amiodarone.
