Suggest Treatment For Hives Along With Swollen Face And Tongue

My husband 64yrs old treated in ER last night for hives and swollen face and tongue. Treatment included oral prednisone, benedryl, and methylprednisolone iv. Appeared to have helped overnight. Started a prednisone rx today, Hives have returned worse and swelling getting bad again. should we go to ER again?

Hello,
Thanks for the query,

Swellin on face and tongue is not a good sign .Well this a kind of medical emergency .

Because it an cause breathing problems which can be life threatening

This condition can also be called angioedema

Basically hives is body's response to external stimuli that is allergen , if you know what exactly causing this hives completely avoid it .

Continue taking medicines prescribed by ER last night and keep applying cold compresses. .

You should immediately visit ER for proper treatment .

For severe hive or angioedema outbreaks, an injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) or a cortisone medication may be needed.
