Suggest Treatment For Hives

My wife has had random hives and patches of itchy skin for several weeks. Then last week she had an episode of angioedema - her lips swelled to three or four times normal. She went to the ER and they put her on a 16 day steroid treatment. Everything seemed normal until yesterday when she had another large hive on her upper arm. What would cause this?

You wife might be suffering from atopy. A common characteristic of atopy is a hypersensitivity of skin and mucous membranes causing atopic (allergic) dermatitis, eczema, asthma, and allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis. The exact cause is unknown but it is considered as genetic. You need to take anti-allergic on long term basis. Sometimes it resolves spontaneously with time. Worms also cause allergic hives.
Advice
1.     Dexamethasone 0.5 mg every 12 hours for 7 days
2.     Levecetirizine 5 mg daily per oral for 7 days
3.     Apply bethamethsone cream locally in skin lesions every 8 hours
4.     Albendazole 400 mg per oral at bed time only once – single dose only
5.     Do not scratch too much as it will caused skin damage and infection
6.     You can apply calamine lotion – three times daily – will provide soothing effect
7.     Avoid dust, smoking, alcohol, dry & cold environment and spicy food
8.     Wear a face mask while outdoor
Thanks
