Suggest Treatment For Hole In Lower Shin After CT Scan

My son has had x-rays and a ct scan on his leg, were a nickle size hole on his lower shin has been confirmed! The doctor ( specialist ) has told us that it is not cancerous and it was not caused by trauma or birth related? Yet he is unable to share a cause with us? Any info would be helpful.
