Suggest Treatment For Huge Purple Bruise On The Thighs

I fell done some tiled floors one week ago. I have a huge purple bruise on my thigh where I landed and in my elbow. There is soft tissue damage with there being tender lumps underneath the thigh bruise. I am due to fly (1 hour) in 2 days time. Should I seek medical advice first?

Hi,

Cannot say in your particular case. without an exam, I can only give general information and we are not in a position to diagnose or prescribe. and mostly bruises from an injury are not from an underlying disease.

Without an underlying problem, flying isn't an issue. With the inability to a clot that is genetic or new or due to cancer or whatever, generally flying isn't that risky. If there are very fragile vessels, generally bleeding wouldn't be just where someone had a big injury but all over and not taking a big injury in order to occur.

And, warm baths or hot water bottles speed resolution of bruises. I am the world's leading expert on this as I am the only person with absolute proof of this. A patient of mine 20 years ago had exactly this situation from a fall on the ice onto her buttock. She used a hot water bottle. She then had the imprint of no bruise in the exact shape of a hot water bottle on her butt surrounded by the bruise on all sides!

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman, Addiction Medicine Specialist
