Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

I am 42 yoa, I have been diagnosed with hypo-thryoidism. I am currently taking levothyroxine @ 112mcg for just over two years. According to my practitioner, my numbers are good, yet I have been gaining weight at a very slow incline. Within the past year, I ve gained 30 pounds; I am so tired, I have headaches and swelling, lack of sleep, I have problems with past surgeries and injuries to my back/tail bone. I need to lose weight. I am active, 5 - 7 days/week. I believe I have a healthy diet, no fast food, no soda, no added sugar, etc. Help.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Welcome and thank you for asking!

I have gone carefully through your concern.

I would inform you that, if your actual TSH is within the normal ranges with the actual dose of levothyroxine, it is not suggested to increase the dose in order to loose on weight because it is approved that it will not function.
So, at this point the cause of your weight gain or difficulty in loosing is not the under active thyroid.

I would suggest you to check the Cortisol level at the 24 hour collected urine, the electrolites in blood (NA,K,Calcium) and the protein level and if it is within the normal ranges than a dietitian would be probably of help.

Hope i was somewhat helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
