Suggest Treatment For Ileostomy And Peri-stomal Hernia
Hi Doctor I need a good gastroenterologist in Middletown, NJ area. I have been suffering with bowel diseases over 44 years. I have ileostomy since age 16. Removed Colon due to Toxic mega colon. I have a very large peri stoma hernia and several more on my abdomen. After 29-30 surgeries most surgeons will not take a chance to operate. It most likely will be fatal from what they all tell me. I live in pain every day and would just once find as doctor, surgeon who would not be afraid of me and look at my problems.
It's a really hard problem. Without directly examining, I can only give general information, but the mechanics of this situation are really bad. The muscle gets thinned, and the gut pops out of gaps. Often, there is not much good muscle to sew back together.
Giving artificial abdominal structures with plastic mesh has not proven out and there has been a lot of complication with it. Surgeons often see there isn't good areas to stitch together. University hospitals are a potential place to try. But it's a hard problem in general. Oddly enough, weight loss sometimes helps and weight loss surgery might be an option.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
