Suggest Treatment For Impetigo All Over The Face

My husband suffers with infintigo all over his face. He has had this condition for many years, due to use of resporats used in paint booths. He has used antibiotics for extended periods of time, such as Keflex and Amoxicillin. Also antibiotic creams used for the break outs. He recently was on 2 doses of keflex and he has leision all over his face again. They are full of clear, viscous pureolence, that are red irritating and itchy. Sometimes very painful like his face is on fire. Is there any treatment that could actually cure him from this condition?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

He would need a swab of a lot of the lesions to be sent to the lab to determine the exact bacteria present. The lab also does sensitivity testing, meaning that they would determine which antibiotics would work and which ones would not have any effect.

This would determine which antibiotics he should use. He should be referred to an infection control specialist, which is a doctor that deals with difficult to treat infections. This doctor would then be able to direct his treatment so that the lesions can resolve completely. His GP can refer him or local hospital.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
