Suggest Treatment For Incarcerated Hernia With Bowel Obstruction

My patient is a 75 yo male (atrial fibrillator) on Xarelto. He needs to be operated on for an incarcerated hernia with a bowel obstruction. Is there an agent to reverse the effects; or, how long do I have to wait to operate on him? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

An incarcerated hernia can become strangulated, which cuts off the blood flow to the tissue that is trapped. A strangulated hernia can be life-threatening if it is not treated.

To prevent serious complications of bowel obstruction he needs to operated without further delay. There are two general types of hernia operations an open hernia repair and laparoscopic repair.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
