Suggest Treatment For Increased Cholesterol Levels

My mother,53 yrs old,5 feet,height,wt is 62 kg, underwent angioplasty 14 months back,her lipid profile was normal since last year,doctors advised her to discontinue T Storvas 5 mg as she was suffering from severe back pain,now her lipid profile shows increased levels cholesterol 245,Triglycerides 365,HDL 40.What is your opinion ?

Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

Well, in a patient treated for coronary artery disease, with now-revealed facts that the atherosclerotic plaque build-up is present within the coronary arteries, total cholesterol and LDL-fraction levels should be maintained within normal range. Therefore I would suggest you to re-start the drug therapy with statins again. She can change the drug within the same classi for example she could be put on rosuvastatin 10 mg a day, and then check if ALT or AST are elevated or if other complications of this therapy are present. If under statin therapy, the triglyceride levels continue to be in same figures as you provided above, then I would suggest her to be put on fenofibrate 160 mg a day, as well.
