Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sebaceous cyst that has become infected under my left eyebrow. Because of its proximity to the eye, should it be handled differently than an abscess elsewhere? Also, I have Chronic kidney disease, stage 3-4. Should I take the new antibiotic oridavancin so as to cover MRSA? If I take a lesser antibiotic and it fails, I am concerned about it worsening so close to the eye, before another antibiotic can be chosen. I am assuming it should be drained. Thanks
Sebaceous cyst infected must be drained. As it's very close to the eye, only expert surgeon can handle it's excision. Oritavancin can be taken but it's effect on kidneys in case of severe renal dysfunction is not studies. Oritavancin can be taken as a single intravenous injection. Vancomycin and Linezolid can be taken in the place of Oritavancin. Kindly consult your surgeon for clinical evaluation of the infected cyst and to decide appropriate treatment measures including excision.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
