Suggest Treatment For Infected Toe

I have an infection in my second toe on my right foot. The toe itself from the knuckle to the tip is red/purple, inflamed, nerve pain is awful. What can I do and what is it. I have had this condition before, same toe same foot each time. They have prescribed me a course of cipro but have finished that and it didnt help at all. It seems to occur in colder months when I have to start wearing closed toe shoes. I have been soaking it in vinegar and water but that only seems to help while it's soaking. I am od-ing on ibuprophen to keep pain at an almost tolerable level, also is so painful I cant sleep. I do have an appointment next week but until then---Please help!!!!!

HI,
I understand your concern.
You seem to have problem due to misfitting shoes. The pressure causes your symptoms of sever pain & inflammation & probably an abscess./ causing breakage of local blood vessels ( with collection of blood there- that's why it's red & blue )
You should -
- - Consult a surgeon for confirmation of infection/ abscess( which will need drainage at proper time. A change of antibiotic is needed in certain cases. ) Clinical examination/ x ray would confirm the diagnosis.& the treatment planned accordingly would help you.
- Cold compress helps in case of blood collection( haematoma )
- Check your blood sugar & get it normal with specific medication along with antibiotic s - in case of an abscess.
- Stop using/Change shoes ( use ones with broad toe)/ Give rest to the part.
In short you need investigations according to expert advise & treatment thereafter.
thanks.
