Suggest Treatment For Infection And Eczema In Child

hi, my daughter is 3.5 yo, she has a little eczema, but after a little surgery but general anesthesia (she got a little piece of crayon on her finger nail, so it got infected and dr need to remove full finger nail), and she has been on antibiotic for 2 weeks and 3 days (cefaclor for suspension, 30 ml 1 sachet 3 times daily), she has a rash all over her body and head, they look like mosquito bite or bug bite, but then like cigarette burn, they are small, but continuos to get more and more... does she need to go to specialist pediatrician dermatologist, or a normal dermatologist... we live in Shanghai... thanks a lot.. claudia

Hello,

Your daughter seems to have developed a side effect of antibiotic. The rash isn't related to surgery or anesthesia. It mostly is due to the antibiotic cefaclor. Please stop the antibiotic and consult a general dermatologist. Till then you can follow the below treatment:
1) Take tab. Benadryl for 4-5 days.
2) Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream on the rash
3) Apply calamine lotion on the rash to ease it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
