Suggest Treatment For Infection In The Lower Thigh

Have infection on lower thigh (spider or Steph) put on SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tab for 10 days on dose 3 and pain has eased up but looked at infected site and more puss came out and still hard on a large area around puncture site. Should I be worried or visit er?

Hi,

You may need to have pus cultures or discharge cultures after skipping antibiotics for three days at least to confirm the causative agent and antibiotics it's sensitive too.

In my opinion Linezolid, Metronidazole and Moxifloxacin combination may be needed. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief. Topical Fudic acid cream may be helpful.
