Suggest Treatment For Infectious Colitis Along With Pain And Tenderness

I have been experiencing pain and very localized tenderness just to the right of my naval. Been about 3 weeks. Have history of infectious colitis and diverticulitis resulting in surgery in 2010 for a sigmoid coloctepy. Just moved where health care is scarce. Can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you are having another episode of colitis, and need an immediate consultation with a gastroenterologist.

Meanwhile, should follow a strict colitis diet. Should avoid foods high in FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols). Sample are milk, yogurt, ice-cream, some fruits (apples, pears, etc.); beans, brussels sprout, onions, garlic, etc.

Consider taking more low fiber foods (white pasta, white rice, white bread, etc.). Clear liquid (water, ice cubes, gelatin, etc.)

But, most importantly, you need to consult with a gastroenterologist, run colonoscopy for immediate evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
