Suggest Treatment For Inflamed Keloid Scar On Neck
My husband has a keloid scar on his neck after a tumor removal 7 years ago. It recently got inflamed and very painful. The dermatologist injected triamcinolone acetonide earlier today and now there is a consistent leak of pus and the scar seems to be separating from his neck. Should we be concerned?
First of all, it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, yes it needs to be reviewed by a cosmetic or plastic surgeon and any local infection must be ruled out.
Also, the biopsy may be needed to rule out any surrounding premalignant or neoplastic cells and must be worked up with ultrasound or MRI of the lesion to see the extent of injury underneath if persisted.
He may also need to be out on antibiotics both oral and topical as well as dressing with antiseptics to dry the site.
Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief. Scar reduction surgeries may be needed once the ooze settled down.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
