Suggest Treatment For Ingestion Of High Doses Of Diltiazem

I take 360 mg of diltiazem once a day. Recently I missed a dose I usually take in the evening before going to bed and took my daily dose the following morning. This evening out of habit I took dose of 360 mg when I already took a 360mg dose this morning. What should I do and watch for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Taking an extra dose of diltiazem 12 hours will not cause any problem however it may result in very slow heart beat and hypotension. You must go the nearest emergency room if you experience fainting, blurred vision, confusion, severe dizziness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position suddenly, sweating, or unusual tiredness or weakness.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician and Fetal Medicine
