Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Hair In Navel

My husband noticed what seemed to be an ingrown hair inside his belly button. He picked it and blood, hairs and yuk came from It. I looked at it for him, there seems to be a small hole, as if a seed of the ingrown hair.. now there is not much blood, but he is very uncomfortable. He says it hurts up above his belly button now and down to his right testical. is this just a skin infection in the belly button?
