Suggest Treatment For Injury In The Foot

I'm 58 and I do not have health insurance right now. I injured my foot about 3 weeks ago (Jan 18) but I'm not sure how. Don't remember any trauma. Stepped down from a ledge at home and it started hurting across the midfoot. Gradually got worse to where I couldn't put any weight on it that evening, and extremely painful the next day. Went to orthopedic sports medicine doctor on Monday Jan 20. He took xray but said it did not show any fracture or damage. Suggested it may be gout... Told me to have blood work to check uric acid levels. Also gave me a script for a walking boot, which I got but can't use yet. Uric acid Levels came back fine. Thyroid doctor suggested soft tissue damage or stress fracture from certain motion repetition. Called ortho doctor because I never heard back from him but he only works that office on Mondays and wasn't in. Another doctor in that office said it could be psuedo-gout... It is now a little over 3 weeks and it's only painful when I put pressure on it or when I don't have it elevated and it swells up. Then it turns purple and feels like it's going to explode. I don't have insurance and can't really afford the $1000 it may cost for an MRI but not sure about the swelling pressure. Will this go away over the next few days or weeks?
