Suggest Treatment For Injury On The Index Finger

3 days ago I cut my index finger with a cordless planer removing approx 2mm of skin and nail at the tip. I have a holiday weekend booked to Rome next weekend and wondered if flying could still be advisable. The finger has a dressing on it although is a fresh open wound which looks raw and dark red blood around site of injury. I have been hearing blood can clot and travel through the body. What is best advice?

Hello,

I understand your concern. Proper wound care like regular change of the dressing, applying antibiotic cream and making sure the wound remains dry and covered will ensure that you have a safe travel. Make sure you pack sufficient wound dressing supplies in your bag.
The way blood clots form during air travel has to do with deep blood vessels and not superficial wounds, so I don't think you have anything to worry about in this regard.
Enjoy your trip and all the best.
