Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have trouble both going to sleep and staying asleep. I have tried muscle relaxers and valium, both of which worked for a short time, but then had little to no affect. I don t want to keep taking perscription drugs, but know I need sleep. I seem to have a high tolerance for drugs, I am perscribed 1 - 2 tablets a night for sleep and I can take 3 and still no affect. I can t seem to turn my mind off. A friend told me about Kavinance, do you think that might help?
Advice 1. Amitriptyline 10 mg at bed time orally for 30 days 2. Zolpidem 10 mg per oral at bed time for 30 days 3. Start workout in gym at least half an hour in a day for 5 days in a week. Exercise induces sleep 4. Do meditation 5. Avoid tea & coffee in evening & night 6. Avoid alcohol and smoking especially in night 7. Avoid foods you may be sensitive. Sensitivity reactions can cause excess congestion, gastrointestinal upset, bloating and gas. This disturbs your sleep 8. Consult a psychiatrist for follow up and counseling Sleep induction pills are used for short term control of insomnia. It is an addicting medicine so avoid using it for more than 1 month. Kavinace is herbal supplement for sleep induction. There is no scientifically proven evidence of its effectiveness and safety. It is better to avoid it. Thanks
