Suggest Treatment For Intense Itching Near Vagina With Pain During Sex

I am a 51.5 yr old women who has hysterectomy in my 30s. For the past few months I am suffering from intense itching on my vaginal area. It is not internal. It is all outside. And sex is extremely painful. I have creams but nothing helps. What can it be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Itching and painful intercourse could be due to several reasons like infections, vaginal dryness. Vaginal examination, vaginal swab, and culture are required at this point. So, please be advised to follow up with your ObGyn for necessary evaluation and management.

If an infection is present, treatment will depend on the type of infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
