Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Pain In The Stomach

hi, I had pain on my stomach, first episode was last monday and it happened all the sudden at 10pm , i feel better when i crunched my stomach. Ever since the pain came on and off, but not frequent. Last friday my friend told me it could be indigestion or heartburn so I started taking Mylanta. didnt take it religiously, just everytime I had the stomach pain. Today i had another episode, followed by nausea feeling. I also research online about heartburn and find out about waking up in the middle of the night choking and realise i have had that several times (not every night thou). what should I do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, assembly of symptoms of intermittent stomach pain with night time awakening indicates possible chronic gastritis or stomach ulcer issue. My guidelines at present:
- Prefer lesser amount of spices, oily, non veg, junk food, dairy fat if consuming
- Regular walking, exercises
- Meditations and YOGA

- Maintain blood sugar
- Control your weight and avoid to have BMI above 25 or 27
- Proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole or dexrabeprazole on empty stomach
- Maintain regular sound, uninterrupted sleep hygiene
- Avoid stress and anxiety
- Avoid smoking, alcohol if consuming

Do consult your doc for primary assessment , if there is any need of concern for upper GI endoscopy to rule out H.Pylori infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
