Suggest Treatment For Irregular Menstrual Periods

Hi I am 21 and have irregular periods. When I was on the Pill it regulate out but since i come off it it has become irregular again. If I start on the pill should this fix it and if so do i need to wait until a period cycle or can i just start taking the pill now?
