Suggest Treatment For Irregular Menstruation

Hello, I’m 23 years old, unmarried. Initially my main problem was irregular period. From the beginning of my first period (at an age - 15), I’m experiencing irregular period. It was 3 months gap previously, but from the last two years – my period is totally unpredictable. Sometimes it is 3 months late and sometimes 4. Even once or twice it was 5 months late. Since the last 2 years my period also lasts for 10 to 15 days instead of 7 days. So I went to a gynecologist who asked me to get some reports. After checking up my reports, all she said that I had some hormone problems for which she prescribed me birth control pills and Levothyroxine Sodium 25 mcg for three months. I’ve heard many side effects of birth control pills, so I avoided that and started having Levothyroxine Sodium 25 mcg - everyday morning one hour before breakfast with a glass of water. The next time I had period was on January 27th, 2016 – which was absolutely a normal period according to my mom – as the bleeding stopped within 4 to 5 days. But the next period showed up on 11th May, 2016 which was just like before. Spotting for the first 7 days and bleeding the next 7 days and final spotting was over by 25th-26th May. Other than these problems, I’ve recently noticed that my vagina is sometimes itchy, especially and mostly after period. I have never noticed any unusual vaginal discharge, except of long time spotting before period. On the other hand, earlier I thought I had some extra wrinkly skin on my anus. But recently, after reading an article about external hemorrhoids, I’m very worried. I have seen blood in my toilet paper a lot of times before (especially, since the last 2 years). Usually there’s no pain there but sometimes it is swollen when my bowel movements are difficult or happen less often than normal. Well I’m very much confused with these symptoms and reports. I don’t understand whether I have PCOS and hemorrhoid? So, please tell me something about my reports and suggest me what should I do now? N.B.: I have Generalized epilepsy (myoclonic jerks) since 2008 and Pityriasis versicolor since 2015. My Pityriasis versicolor are in my neck, back, and mons pubis area. And I always have a low Hemoglobin. The medicines I currently take are- i)     Thyrox 50 mcg – ½ tablet as mentioned earlier ii)     Folison - 1 tablet after lunch iii)     Epilim 200 mg – 2 tablets after breakfast and 2 tablets after dinner iv)     Leveron 500 mg - 1 tablet after breakfast and 1 tablet after dinner v)     Leveron 250 mg - 1 tablet after dinner •     Height – 5’6” •     Weight – 139 pounds

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

For investigations of irregular menstruations, you may be asked for hormonal work up like FSH, LH, Oestrogen, Progesterone, Prolactin, etc.

Before hormonal check-up, you will be examined internally to find any organic disease like infection or cyst-Ultrasonography also will reveal a good amount of information regarding your internal organs (and even pregnancy also).

Avoid stress, take a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
