Suggest Treatment For Irritated Scabs On Skin Which Causes Discomfort While Sleeping

My son has scabies and has taken the oral medication because the topical irritates his skin terribly. He can t sleep and we ve tried every over the counter anti itch medication with no results. Is prednisone an option, and is that okay to ask the dr? I just want my son to get some relief. Thank you :)

Hi,

Here are a few things you can try to alleviate discomfort from irritated scabs on your skin:
* Could you keep the area clean and dry? Gently clean the area with soap and water and pat dry.
* Could you apply a moisturizer or ointment? This can help keep the area hydrated and prevent itching.
* Use over-the-counter (OTC) creams or ointments that contain hydrocortisone to reduce itching and inflammation.
* Take an OTC antihistamine to help reduce itching.
* Please keep the affected area covered with a bandage or gauze to avoid further irritation.
* Avoid scratching or picking at the scabs, as this can further irritate the area and delay healing.
* You can use a cold compress to help soothe itching and pain.

If a skin condition or infection causes the scabs, consult a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
