Suggest Treatment For Irritation In The Tongue

Hi over the past month I have been having problems with my tongue. I went to the doctors and met with a nurse nurse practitioner who said I shouldn't be alarmed and gave me a mouth rinse but the problem is persisting and scaring me. Around the edges it seems to be scalloped and red, kind of like an irritation. It started out in one spot and seems to have spread around the whole tongue and possibly moving inward. I'm also a college student and have just come back to school so the drinking activities seem to be irritating my tongue more.

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain it seems like Apthous Stomatitis in which there is inflammation of the mucous membranes inside the mouth causing redness, burning and pain..
It can occur due to a number of reasons like Nutritional deficiency of Iron, Vitamin B12, stress, allergies, dry mouth, acid reflux, physicl trauma like with some sharp tooth etc.
The scalloping at the corners of the tongue seems to be indentations caused due to impaction of the margins of tongue to inner side of teeth in individuals having a larger tongue [Macroglossia].
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and treatment of the underlying cause of inflammation can resolve the problem..
As of now you can take supportive treatment like gargling with numbing mouthwash, taking anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, sucking ice pops and cold water rinses and avoiding spicy food.
Take a multivitamin tablet daily..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
