Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Scalp is a seborrheic area which is rich in oil glands. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis is an itchy, scaly condition which commonly affects areas rich in oil glands like scalp, face etc.
The etiology of seborrheic dermatitis is inflammation and over-proliferation of a yeast called malassezia furfur, which is a part of normal commensal flora of the skin.
The yeast feeds on oil secreted by oil glands, sometimes it can over-populate and give rise to itchy bumps. The bumps can get secondarily infected giving rise to pus and pain.

It is advisable to avoid hair oil application on your scalp and try to keep it as clean as possible.

An antidandruff/ antifungal shampoo e.g 2% ketoconazole shampoo is an effective anti-seborrheic agent which inhibits the fungus and is also sebostatic.
I would normally recommend usage of ketoconazole shampoo every alternate day in may patients. It can even be use daily.
For painful bumps I would normally recommend an oral antibiotic (penicillin group e.g Amoxycillin or flucloxacillin) for a week.
These are prescription medicines, therefore, I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for a prescription of these
