Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having an itchy scrotum only on the left side for about 10 years now. It started when I spent a year in India so am trying to figure out wether its because of the sweaty conditions or something else. I did have sex with a girl (protected) but again it was very hot and sewaty so am wondering whether it has something to do with sexual disease.
Also the left side of my scrtoum hurt alot after intercourse. It seems to be something to do with the vericocele vein. Both these issues of itchyness and pain seem to go hand in hand and are accentuated after sexual activity.
Please advise or at least tell me what to tell my doctor. I live in London so am hoing that he will arrange for me to see a specialist here.
Itching in the scrotum is commonly due to fungal infection (tinea infection-ring worm). You should take care of your hygiene. Wash the groin twice daily with an antifungal shampoo like ketoconazole or selenium sulfide. Wear soft cotton clothes, change clothes daily and have regular bath. Apply topical antifungal cream like Miconazole or Clotrimazole on the area affected for relief. Take a course of fluconazole, an anti fungal orally for relief.
Since you are suspecting varicocele you are suggested to get clinically examined by a urologist. He may suggest you you take a few tests and investigations or imaging tests to get a detailed study so that pathology can be diagnosed and treatment started at the earliest. For relief from pain you can take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Naproxen, one SOS after food.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
