Suggest Treatment For Itching Sensation Despite Taking Benadryl
I was treated for an attack of diverticulitis with amoxicillin-clac 10 days. The last day of the antibiotic I developed an itch that when I scratched turned red. I was told to take Benadryl which I did. Seven days later I still have the itch. My bowel has calmed down but still somewhat tan color I don t know if two are related. Any suggestions
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of itching sensation, my treatment advice is –
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
