Suggest Treatment For Itchy Raised Patches On Hand

My sister has hemacromatosi but when giving blood she was told her iron is very low. She is waiting for blood test results but has now got two red raised patches on her hand that she has been told is ring worm although the treatment is having now affect and also a dry patch of skin at the corner of her mouth the Dr said looked like the end of a cold sore when she has not had one. Are these symptoms linked and what could it most likely be?

Hi,

The symptoms may be linked, but it is also possible that they are unrelated. The red raised patches on her hand could be ringworm, but if the treatment is not working, it may be a different type of skin infection or condition. The dry patch of skin at the corner of her mouth could be related to the same condition, or it could be a separate issue such as eczema or fungal infection.

Your sister needs to follow up with her doctor to determine the cause of her symptoms and to receive appropriate treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment options may include antifungal or antibacterial medications, topical creams or ointments, or other treatments. In the meantime, she can try to avoid scratching or irritating the affected areas and keep them clean and dry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
