Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a rash circling the base of my penis. It appears to be moving up the shaft. I am very clean. Am not a runner/athlete. I had extremely itchy scrotum, which has settled down, but occasionally comes back. I have used Lamsil anifungal cream for over 6 weeks and there doesnt seem to be any improvement. I am not sexually active. I have changed Laundry detergents and replaced all my underwear with new cotton jocks. Still no improvement. The rash is not particularly itchy... but definitely a signficant discolouration of the skin has occured. Is there a better cream to use?... should I stop using all creams?
These symptoms and signs are suggestive of STD especially if there is associated with pain, fever, urethral discharge and recent sexual intercourse. So this is the first thing to rule out by doing STD testing. Second, it may be a sign of uroinfection or urinary stones and some other genital infection but this is less common. In every case, antibiotic therapy may be required so the test should be done as soon as possible so that appropriate treatment can be started. Till that try to drink plenty of fluids, avoid sexual intercourse and rest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
