Suggest Treatment For Itchy Throat And Runny Nose

Hi Doctor: I am a 40 year old female, and recently I visited the Smokey Mountain area. I felt my ears pop on the way up the mountain, but my ears didn t feel normal until about three days after returning. After returning, my three year old niece developed some hoarseness and runny nose. I babysat her, and shortly afterwards, I begin to feel and itch in my throat and some pain in my right ear (all the symptoms are on the right side). I experienced congestion in my sinuses causing runny nose and stuffiness. I have been taking medication such as Actifed or Sudafed. My ear itches, but pain is gone. My throat still itches.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itchy throat and runny nose which is due to respiratory tract infection and it could be due to allergic manifestations.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take throat soothing agents and take combination of antibiotic Levofloxacin along with antihistamine such as Levocetirizine. Avoid use of spicy, sharp oily and fried food substances. You should take cough expectorants. You should do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day. You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Go for blood tests to detect level of infection and treatment can be started accordingly.
