Suggest Treatment For Joint Pain And Swelling On Feet
Dr. Rynne, My general md is out of the country. I went to see her a couple and weeks ago and had some blood work. I was bitten by a tick a couple of months ago and my one of the lyme test came back possible so I am on antibiotics. I am normally very well. I went to her because of joint pain and swelling in my feet (particularly the right foot) and swelling in my right leg - which feels tight. I had joint pain, and still have in my right shoulder, right hip and fingers. There is definitely something wrong with me.
This infection to you is called lyme infection caused by the bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi transmitted through the bite of the black-legged ticks. In your case, the infection has spread to blood and causing joint swelling and pain. Usually, with antibiotic treatment, the symptoms will reverse.
If the swelling will persist, you need another re-evaluation through physical examination and lab tests to understand the level of infection, and the next round of antibiotics. For this, you need to be patient, and follow your doctor's advice rigorously.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
