Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am a female and is having a keloid on my chest (mid part) that is gradually getting bigger. Nearly 12 years ago, i consulted a reconstructive surgeon but she was reluctant to do something as she said that there are chances that it will go or will grow much bigger, depending on the type of keloid so i just left it. Do you advise me to do the necessary treatment to take it out? Please need your advise. Thanks and more power!
Keloid is a thick raised scar which develops where the skin has healed after a skin injury. Several treatment options are available for keloid scar but it is difficult to treat and isn't successful always. Treatments that may help to subside keloid scar such as intralesional steroid injection, applying steroid impregnated tape or applying silicone gel on the affected area. Other treatment options are surgical intervention followed by radiotherapy, laser treatment, freezing keloid scar with liquid nitrogen or cryotherapy can be used to subside keloid scar. You should visit a dermatologist physically and your dermatologist will decide which treatment options will be appropriate and effective for you after assessing.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician,
