My daughter has a keloid on her ear cartilage from a piercing. It is the size of a kidney bean. What is the best option? We have been in discussions with doctor opting her injections, surgery, or some type of laser. Not sure what to do. I am afraid it will get larger.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain keloid is formed after an injury to the soft tissues leading to excessive formation of fibrous tissue at the site of injury.
As it is of the size of kidney bean that means it is not larger in size and you can go for steroid injections or lazers to reduce the size of the keloid or shrink it.. Tissue freezing can also be done to regress it and also prevent its increase in size.. In case if you do not get considerable improvement you can opt for surgical removal of the keloid.. Although recurrences in case of keloid is not a necessary finding but in case if you go for surgical removal of keloid you can put silicone patches over the area to prevent overgrowth of tissue and reformation of keloid..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
