Suggest Treatment For Kidney Stone

I think I may have a kidney stone. I am allergic to contrast dyes. Do I need a contrast dye cat scan to diagnose it? It may be a week or more before I can get an appointment with a urologist. If I am peeing well, do I need to go to an emergency room or can I wait. I already went to Urgent Care for UTI and I am on Cipro. No fever, just flank pain.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern about health.

As per your query you are supposing that you might have kidney stone, as per your symptoms you have flank pain only, i would suggest you not to go to emergency room or urgent care immediately. As symptoms of kidney stone are severe pain and it depends on size of stone as well.

I suggest you to go for a regular check up and get your condition diagnosed first as flank pain is not the only symptom that suggests kidney stone, it could be because of numbrr of reasons.

As you are allergic to contrast dyes which are used for CAT scan , need not to worry about that you tell your physician about this and you can under go ultrasound abdomen and pelvic region or CT scan without contrast can also be done.

Firstly get your condition diagnosed properly and if it will be kidney stone then treatment will depend on its size. Smaller stones are easily removed by drinking plenty of water. Larger stones require operative measures.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
