Suggest Treatment For Large Bump On Back

My husband has a large bump that is visible only when he lays down on his back. The bump starts below his sternum and ends just above his belly button. It is not painful. He thinks it may be a pulled muscle but I m concerned and think he needs to have it checked out by our doctor. Please advise! Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What your husband could be having based on the description of the lump appears to be 'epigastric hernia'. It is caused by bulguing of abdominal contents due to weak anterior abdominal wall.
He needs a clinical evaluation from Surgeon.
The treatment for this cause would be to undergo surgical correction by means of 'hernioraphy' or 'hernioplasty'.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
