Suggest Treatment For Large Protruding Tail Bone

Hello I am 31 years old and I have suffered from a large protruding tail bone my whole life. When I was younger my friends would said I had a tail, It is embarrassing and I don t like that it hurts me to sit down on flat surfaces. I was looking into my options on correcting the problem and was thinking a Brazilian butt lift would be a option which it would give me more cushion and I would not sit on my bone. I think it is causing my spine to move and give me scoliosis because I have to sit on my right side shifted so it does not hurt. what are your thoughts on what I can do to correct this problem.

Hello,

You are suffering from a large protruding tail bone, it hurts you when you sit on flat surfaces. It needs correction so that you become more comfortable to do your daily activities. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedist, get all required tests and investigations done.

Your treatment will depend on the cause detected, like it can be due to genetics or hyperlordosis-when the lower spine curves inwards, pushing the pelvis back and up, making the tailbone stick out or tailbone misalignment and it will be treated appropriately. Stretches may improve symptoms caused by a protruding tailbone.

Physical therapy is helpful, it helps to reduce tailbone discomfort, stretches and exercises to improve spinal alignment. Gentle massages with pain relieving ointment will help to reduce tailbone pain. The treating doctor may recommend Injectable dermal fillers. In severe cases dermal fat grafts to pad the surrounding area may be recommended.

If required Coccygectomy, which is the removal of a portion or all of the tailbone may be suggested by the treating doctor but postoperative recovery may take time as people complain of continued pain. If need be you will be referred to a plastic surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
